The Nahua contributors to the Florentine Codex refer to the same ideas about the supernatural origins of art and song, whereby the “good artist,” the toltecatl, is described as someone who knows how to dialogue with his own heart (where the book of knowledge is kept), who has the presence of the sacred in his heart, and who knows how to compose chants, music, and song.
