During the ritual evocations and bodily manifestations of dhikr, the melodic nature of the recitation of special prayers (wird) and of the Quran is gradually amplified to increase and intensify the emotional impact and the transformative effects and implications of the performance. Immersed within structures of repetition, the rhythmic soundscape of collective recitation operates as the generator of shared partaking.
